Getting started

  • 1. How do I get Truphone on the iPhone? Get answer

    You can now download Truphone on the Apple iPhone. Truphone is available via the App Store, either connect your iPhone to your mac/pc or download Truphone directly from your iPhone.

    The current release of "Truphone on the iPhone" offers an outbound calling solution saving you money on international calls, roaming charges and out of plan calls.

  • 2. What sort of Internet connection will I need to place Truphone calls? Get answer

    In order to place Truphone calls you will need to use a WIFI Internet connection. Unfortunately Truphone calls are not possible via 3g.

  • 3. My iPhone telephone number is associated with a Truphone for Nokia account. How do I switch from Nokia to iPhone? Get answer

    There is currently a known issue that affects existing "Truphone for Nokia" users when installing the new “Truphone for iPhone” application. Don't worry....we have a resolution for you. Please contact support@truphone.com with your choice between the following options;

    1. Close my "Truphone for Nokia" Account and transfer any cash balance.

    The resolution is for us to close your Truphone account to allow you to sign up again. You will not be able to use your current "Truphone for Nokia" account and will lose any Truphone numbers associated with it. If you have any outstanding Truphone credit on your account we can transfer this over once you contact us with your new "Truphone for iPhone" account details.

    2. I want to keep my "Truphone for Nokia" account and get a "Truphone for iPhone" account.

    We will need to remove your mobile/cell number from your "Truphone for Nokia" account so that you can use it to sign up with your iPhone.

    To continue to use your existing Truphone account to receive calls on your Nokia handset simply put a different SIM in your Nokia phone and complete the "SIM update" procedure (the phone should prompt you to do this and the manual option is in the Options menu). This will enable you to receive Truphone calls and forward calls to a mobile number. Then contact support to remove the mobile/cell number so that you can use it to sign up on the iPhone.

    If you don't want to update your SIM in the Nokia phone then let us know and we will remove your mobile/cell number and turn off forwarding on the "Truphone for Nokia" account.

    Please Note: You will not be able to receive free Truphone calls on the iPhone at this time as the service is outbound only in the first release.

    Please contact us with your Truphone or mobile/cell number and confirm whether you would like to keep your existing account or not. Don't forget to do the SIM Update first if you want to continue using your "Truphone for Nokia" account.

  • 4. How do I know if I am connected to Truphone on the iPhone? Get answer

    You will know if you are connected to Truphone on the iPhone if you can see the following;

    1. Within the dial screen you will notice green coloured brackets around the Truphone logo
    2. You will be able to view your current credit balance in the bottom left corner.

    Once you are successfully connected to Truphone you will be able to place Truphone calls!

  • 5. How do I make Truphone calls on the iPhone? Get answer

    Select the Truphone application from the main screen. Dial a number or select from the following:

    • A favourite
    • A recent call history detail
    • A contact

    Then click on the green “Call” button to start the call.

  • 6. How do I make free Truphone to Truphone calls on the iPhone? Get answer

    The "Truphone on the iPhone" is an outbound calling solution only. Inbound calls will be received via your mobile/cell network and not via Truphone. Hence free Truphone to Truphone calls via two iPhone users is not yet possible.
    Customers using an iPhone can make free Truphone calls to other Truphone customers who have Nokia devices, so long as both parties are connected to the Truphone service!!

  • 7. How do I receive Truphone/free calls to my mobile number? Get answer

    Unfortunately it is not yet possible to receive inbound Truphone calls to your mobile number. We hope to offer this service in the future.

    The Truphone service for the iPhone is an outbound calling solution. When you're connected to Truphone you're able to make cheap Truphone calls over the Internet. Please note that inbound calls will be received via your mobile/cell network.

    New Truphone accounts for the iPhone won’t be assigned a separate Truphone number. Instead the outgoing caller id will be presented as your mobile/cellular number that you entered during the installation process.

    Calls to other Truphone users who are using Nokia devices are free when both parties are online!!

  • 8. Can I call Google Talk or other SIP addresses using Truphone? Get answer

    Unfortunately it is not currently possible to dial SIP addresses (xxx@domain.com) using "Truphone on the iPhone". This includes calling Google Talk addresses.

  • 9. How do I know I am making a Truphone call? Get answer

    You will know you are placing a Truphone call when you receive the following indicators;

    • 1. You will hear a special Truphone ringtone indicating that your call is being made via Truphone.
    • 2. You will be using the Truphone application to place your call.

  • 10. What happens if I need to change my mobile number/sim card? Get answer

    You can update your current Truphone CLI using these easy steps;

    1. Insert your new sim card into your iPhone
    2. Navigate to Settings>Truphone>"Next Time I use Truphone ... Update Number"
    3. Open the Truphone application
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the validation process of your new mobile/cell number

    NOTE: You will need to receive a call to the new number during this process for the update to work. When you next make a Truphone call, your new mobile number will be presented as your CLI.

  • 11. Can I send SMS messages using Truphone? Get answer

    Unfortunately this feature is not yet available on the iPhone. This is a feature on the Nokia product only.

  • 12. How do I add credit to my account? Get answer

    There are several ways to top-up your Truphone account.

    • Web Top-up

      Login to your Truphone account at www.truphone.com/myaccount/credit_card_payment.tru using your username and password which takes you to the Top-up page.

      Next, use the Manual Top-up section to choose your top-up amount and add your credit/debit card details to proceed with the payment. You will then be directed to the main payment screen where your credit/debit card details are required. If you have already added your bank card details you can simply select this option from the drop down list. Alternatively you can select the link at the bottom of this page to "Add Credit using Paypal".


      You can also set up an auto top-up so that your balance is topped up automatically when it drops below your preset level! To do this fill in the "Auto Top-Up" section.
    • Mobile Web Top-up
      Here you can complete the same steps as above using your iPhone whilst on the move. Simply use your iPhone to click on the Top-up button located in the bottom right hand corner of your Truphone dialler screen.

    • Phone Top-up
      Truphone have a telephone top up system which gives you even greater flexibility managing your Truphone credit. Simply dial one of the following numbers to use our easy step-by step telephone system:

      Customers based in the UK:
      Dial 1500 whilst connected to Truphone or 08455086878 from any phone

      Customers based in the US:
      Dial 1501 whilst connected to Truphone or 13475351535 from any phone.

      Customers based outside the US/UK:
      Dial 1501 whilst connected to Truphone or one of the following numbers from any phone:

      +442033558248 (UK)
      +13475351535 (US)

      Note: You will need to validate your email address prior to adding more credit. If you need to edit your email address go to www.truphone.com/myaccount

    Remember you can find your Truphone balance anytime by sending an SMS to +44 7978 88 11 11 (UK) or +1 202 683 8200 (US) containing the word "BALANCE".

Troubleshooting

  • I cannot dial the "+" sign when making a Truphone call on the iPhone Get answer

    This issue has since been resolved, simply upgrade to the latest Truphone application build (version 1.11 or later) via the App Store > Updates or use the following link;

  • Once I make a Truphone call I am unable to hang up properly!! Get answer

    Unfortunately this is a known issue that our technical team are aware of. We are working hard to find a resolution ASAP.

    We have a work around ..... Hold down the home/square button on the iPhone until the call eventually disconnects.

  • I cannot see my Truphone credit displayed at the bottom of the Truphone dial screen!! Get answer

    The first version of Truphone for the iPhone had a known issue with displaying Truphone credit. This issue has since been fixed in our second version of Truphone for the iPhone which you can upgrade to here http://www.truphone.com//iphone/appstore_redirect.html

    If you are using the latest version of Truphone on your iPhone and are still not able to see your Truphone credit displayed, you may not be successfully connected to the Truphone service. Try re-booting your iPhone and attempt another wifi connection. See the FAQ "How do I know if I am connected to Truphone on the iPhone?" for further details.

  • I do not get a validation call or the call is diverted to my voicemail Get answer

    A few customers are currently experiencing this issue. We recommend you check the following and try again ...

    1. Reboot your iPhone and try this again.
    2. Ensure you have mobile/cell reception/signal when you initiate the validation call. Please ensure you are not covering the bottom of your iPhone with your hand and blocking the mobile/cell signal (Yes...we know this sounds odd...but we've tested it and when the signal is low calls can go to voicemail easily).
    3. Ensure you have sufficient mobile/cell credit to receive a call - if you pay to receive calls (US Customers)
    4. Ensure you can receive international calls to your mobile/cell number?
    5. Once you enter a Security PIN in the sign up screen and the validation call-back starts to initiate, try pressing the square key (Main menu button) on the iPhone to return to the home screen before the call is received.
