Your rates are really low, but I get loads of FREE minutes with my current network so why would I use Truphone?
One of the great things about Truphone is that you don't need to change anything about your current phone set up. You can keep using your mobile in exactly the same way - where you already get a good deal, that's great!
But we think we can bring something for everyone. Four reasons:
All we're suggesting is that you consider Truphone alongside your existing phone set-up. Use us to save money when it's good for you.
Does it really cost the same amount to make calls wherever I am in the world?
Yes! All our Wi-Fi calling rates are worldwide. With Truphone it doesn't matter if you're in Madrid, Miami, Melbourne, Malaysia or Madagascar - as long as you're connected to a WiFi network you will pay the same low rate for your calls.
No roaming charges, no hidden costs, no worries.
See our worldwide rates.
Do I need to sign a lengthy contract or pay a subscription to use Truphone?
With Truphone there are no lengthy contracts, no subscription fees, no monthly bills and no installation charges.
It is important to understand that Truphone works alongside your gsm mobile phone service and does not replace it. We use the internet (the most powerful network in the world!) to route your calls using VoIP. Then we pass these massive savings on to you in the form of free (or very, very cheap) calls.
So what do I have to pay for?
You pay for calls and text messages to other mobile phones and landlines (calls and SMS messages to other connected Truphone users are always free, worldwide). But because we use the internet to route your calls our rates are really, really low - especially for calling internationally or when you're abroad.
You pay for the calls you make by topping up your credit in the My Account section of our website, using your PayPal account. From here you can also monitor your call history as well as edit all your personal settings.
Do I have to change my number?
No, you keep your existing phone number.
Truphone works alongside your existing phone deal. It's a bit like having a separate pay-as-you-go phone on your current mobile - you just use it when you want to make low-cost internet calls.
If you are a Nokia Truphone user in the UK or USA you will be allocated a special additional Truphone number to use alongside your existing mobile number. Truphone calls will be made using this number, and people can contact you on this number too. If you're abroad and someone calls you on your Truphone number when you're connected to the service, you won't pay any nasty inbound roaming charges.
If you've registered on a Nokia outside of the UK or US you use your current number to make Truphone calls, and people call you on your existing number. Simple.
Can I call other mobiles and landlines using Truphone? Can they call me
Yes, you can call any phone in the world. It's just like any other mobile call - only much cheaper!
Nokia Truphone users can receive calls with Truphone too. Nokia customers who signed up in the UK and US are allocated a specific Truphone number that anyone can call (possibly saving you money on inbound charges).
If you've registered on a Nokia outside of the UK or US you use your current number to make Truphone calls, and people call you on your existing number. Simple.
How do I make free international calls using Truphone?
Any calls you make to other connected Truphone users are free, wherever you both are. Simply dial as normal - if you're both connected to Truphone the call will be completely free of charge.
You've probably figured it out by now anyway, but the more people you know with Truphone accounts, the better. So spread the word. If you've got friends, family and colleagues dotted around the world, tell them about Truphone - you can all save loads of money on your phone bills.
What happens if I'm not at home or at work? Can I use Truphone when I'm out and about?
You can use Truphone wherever you have access to WiFi, so you're not tied to just your home or office network. You can connect to Truphone at any public WiFi hotspot, as well as at friend's houses, other offices, conference centres etc.
Because Truphone works on your existing mobile, you can simply revert to using your GSM network if you can't connect to WiFi.
I get hundreds of SMS every month for free. Why would I want to pay 10p/20c to send an SMS with Truphone?
Truphone is brilliant for sending SMS messages from abroad. Our flat SMS rate of 10p/20c per text applies worldwide. Even if you currently get 100s of free text messages in your monthly bundle, you probably pay loads to send texts abroad. Some network operators can charge a high rate for sending SMS to and from foreign countries - we charge just 10p/20c. Sending texts to other connected Truphone users is always free.
If someone sends an SMS to your Truphone number when you're not connected you will still receive it. We forward all such texts to your normal mobile number for free.
I like the sound of this but it must be complicated. How easy is it to install Truphone?
Very easy!
It's easy to install Truphone on compatible Nokia phones. Go to http://www.truphone.com/nokia/download.html, enter your phone number, and follow the simple steps on your mobile (basically just clicking 'Yes' after each step!).

I don't have the right phone. Is there another way I can use Truphone to make cheap international calls?
We're working hard to make Truphone available on more phones, and will be announcing more compatible handsets in the very near future. If you're due an upgrade soon then why not upgrade to a Truphone compatible phone? It could save you loads of money.
